The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 requires federal agencies to conduct a comprehensive energy and water valuation of facilities accounting for 75% of agency energy consumption.
EMO was hired as a subcontractor to URS, Inc. to provide HVAC assessments and Energy Audits for 9 US Navy bases across the country. EMO evaluated multiple energy conservation measures, including HVAC upgrades, lighting improvements, changes in operating procedures and controls, and renewable energy opportunities. Each base audit included 20 – 35 buildings, including offices, barracks, retail, gymnasium, and other types.
To date, EMO has completed seven of the nine bases, and has recommended over 90 Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) that span multiple buildings and are projected to save over $9,000,000 per year in annual energy costs. Recommended measures include geothermal heat pump systems, base-wide energy management systems, wind turbines, heat recovery, lighting controls, systems recommissioning, and solar hot water among others.
